FOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES COMMITTEE COMMITMENT:

  • Bi-monthly meetings held both virtually and in-person (PAC Meetings: October & April)

  • Play a vital role in improving the quality and nutritional value of school meals.

  • Provide feedback on menu options and dietary requirements.

School Nutrition Programs

  • Federally funded programs established to ensure children are provided nutritionally balanced meals
  • To receive federal reimbursements for each meal, school meal programs must offer meals that meet strict federal nutrition standards 
  • Standards require schools to offer students the right balance of fruits, vegetables, low salt, low-fat or fat-free milk, whole grains and lean protein.
  • Meal standards are broken down by grade levels K-5, 6-8 and 9-12

National School Lunch Program Meal Requirements

  • No more than half of the fruit or vegetable offerings may be in the form of juice. All juice must be 100% full-strength.
  • Larger amounts of these vegetables may be served.
  • At least 80 percent of grains offered weekly must meet the whole grain-rich
  • All fluid milk must be fat-free (skim) or low-fat (1 percent fat or less). Milk may be flavored or un-flavored, provided that unflavored milk is offered at each meal service

  • Food prepared has been increased 5% over daily participation to ensure adequate food is produced
  • Decreased number of schools managers oversee to increase focus at each school.
