WICDI Project: What is it again?

For anyone who needs a refresher or is new, WICDI is a NOAA-funded Project of Special Merit. It’s a grant funded project operating out of Wisconsin Dept of Admin and State Cartographer’s Office.

The project began in March of 2019 and has continued since, after being awarded a second round of funding to expand on its goals.

Genevieve and Melanie are main project staff, working under Jim G (state GIO) and Howard V (state C).

WICDI = WI Coastal Management Data Infrastructure.

Project formed after 2016 and 2018 heavy rains caused severe flooding in northern WI. PI’s noticed that culvert inventories and related abilities varied widely across the area. Wanted to de-silo and provide space for collaboration.

WICDI team developed a community of practice centered in the northern area but expanding out. This community helps us focus and develop our project goals to meet their needs.

Project main objectives are to create a shared culvert dataset, establish it within a support environment, use the data and other tools to help local communities, and support culvert replacements and upgrades to better guard against flooding.
