Ballots will be mailed to all voters in Santa Cruz County for the November 8, 2022 General Election

Ballots will be mailed on October 10, 2022.

A Guide to Registering voters

What are the requirements for a person to register to vote?

• Be at least 18 years of age as of the day of the next election;
• 16 and 17-year olds that are eligible can pre-register to vote;
• Be a citizen of the United States;
• Be a resident of California;
• Not be in prison serving a state or federal prison sentence for the conviction of a felony.
• Not be deemed by an appropriate court to be mentally incompetent.�(Elections Code §2000, 2211)
• No documentation or proof of the above requirements is required in order to register to vote. The statement on the voter registration card which the voter signs under penalty of perjury is sufficient and all that the law requires. (Elections Code §2111, 2112) In addition, pursuant to Elections Code §2121 no fees may be charged for registration.

When should voters re-register to vote?

• If they do not remember voting within the last five years;
• If they have moved since last voting;
• If they have changed political parties;
• If they have changed their name.

Key dates and deadlines

• July 18 – August 12: Candidate filing. If the incumbent does not file, filing is extended to August 17.
• August 12: Last day to call an election
• August 19: Arguments & Analyses Due
• August 26: Rebuttals Due
• September 9: Military and Overseas ballots go out - RAVBM
• October 10: First day to mail ballots. Current VR = 167,562
• October 24: Last day to register to vote to be on the voter rolls
• October 29 – November 8: Voter service centers open
• 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday
• 8am to 5pm on Monday
• 7am to 8pm on Tuesday
• November 9: Canvass/audit of election begins
• December 4: Deadline to cure a missing or non-comparing signature
• December 9: Deadline to certify election

How to return your ballot after voting from home.

Voters may return their ballot in one of the following ways:

• Drop it off at one of our 24-hour drop boxes

• Mail it so it is received on time – ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received by November 11, will be considered received on time.
