GOAL 5: Emigration / Immigration

Choice A:

- In Online Resources briefly review each of the bullet points for online immigration records by time period. These record collections are good for learners to explore later.

- Scroll down to Background and briefly review the bullets as a historical framework for immigration.

- In Immigration Records briefly review the information in “Passenger Lists” and “Passports.”

- In South Dakota Migration Routes select the Missouri River link. In the page that appears, mention the map and the Route of the River section.

Goal 6: Military - Choice A:

- In Online Resources briefly review each of the bullet points for online military records by time period. These record collections are good for learners to explore later.

- Briefly scroll through the sections for various wars that are listed. These may contain state-specific and general information about military records and conflicts.

- Scroll down the page and explain that the links point to collections from a number of different sites.

GOAL 7: Probate, Land, and Court

Choice A:

- In Availability summarize the first two paragraphs to describe probate records and where they are typically kept.

- In Online Resources briefly review each of the bullet points for land records by time period. These record collections are good for learners to explore later.

- In Federal Land Records summarize the section to explain the federal (public domain) process for distributing land and creating records.

- In County Land Records summarize the section to explain how land is transferred between individuals and how corresponding records are generated and kept.

Bureau of Land Management Site:

- Choose South Dakota in the search box and enter “Johnson” as the surname for the search. Then browse one of the land records.

Choice B:

- Summarize the first section to illustrate how court records are created and the types of information they often include.

Mention the External Links section for resources to explore later.

In the South Dakota maps page, click the first available map. This shows towns and counties in the state for the year 1904. Zoom in (scroll wheel) to view more details.

GOAL 9: Newspapers
