Ridhvi - We’ve talked about HOSA facts, but now we want to get into the heart of HOSA and why we are part of the organization.

Talk about your favorite parts about HOSA - your testimony.

For me, HOSA was a way to gain multiple opportunities within health care, ultimately shaping my future career goals. It inspired me to partake in activities such as medical research, hospital volunteering, and working as a CNA. It also allowed me to gain exposure to a wide variety of health careers through breakout sessions and competitive events that are offered at the state leadership conferences. Additionally, it allowed me to connect with others and develop new friendships along the way because essentially, HOSA is a community that shares a passion for healthcare.

Now I’m going to turn it over to Pranavi, who will share her reasons for being part of HOSA and talk about our team’s goals for the year.

HOSA Spirit Week (November 3-7, 2025)

3. Soaring to New Heights at ILC - how to prepare for International Leadership Conference

To begin with, HOSA week is a spirit week in which HOSA Members can dress to show their HOSA spirit! Each day will have a different theme, such as dressing in HOSA colors, official HOSA attire, or dressing to support our service events this year (Blood Drives and Live On Nebraska). Watch Nebraska HOSA’s Instagram page - we will be releasing the daily themes soon!

Chapter Visits: Also, this year we are offering chapter visits. At any point, a HOSA chapter can request a visit by our state officers. Our team is offering three different workshop themes to chapters, but we can also tailor a visit to your needs. Our themes are Launching HOSA, Navigating Competitive Events, and Soaring to New Heights at ILC. Your chapter advisor can contact the state officer coordinator, Taryn Brown, to set up a visit. How Much Does HOSA Cost?

Annual membership dues:

$20 total for state and international dues; some chapters add local dues

Registration fees for events:

One-day events range from $10-20 per event, and lunch is included
State Leadership Conference (a 2.5 day event) is $40, with lunches and t-shirts as add-on costs. There may also be travel costs (hotel, meals, transportation).
International Leadership Conference is $145, with meals and travel expenses as extras

Other costs:

Dress code for most events is business casual or professional. Official uniform is not required.

Live On Nebraska

What is Live On Nebraska? Live On Nebraska is one of 55 organ procurement organizations across the United States. They are dedicated to saving & healing lives through organ, tissue, and eye donation, as well as educating the public about donation.

Blood Drives

Nebraska HOSA encourages chapters to host blood drives through the American Red Cross or the Nebraska Community Blood Bank.

This year, Nebraska HOSA is partnering with Live On Nebraska to promote organ and tissue donation registration. Members will have various opportunities to learn about the registration and learn how to have conversations with their loved ones about this subject. Our goal is to have 100 registered donors by SLC!

HOSA is also encouraging chapters to host blood drives throughout the year. At SLC, the chapter reporting the highest number of donations will be recognized with the Hemoglobin Hero award. We will also host a blood drive at SLC in partnership with the Nebraska Community Blood Bank.

Your chapter can choose to do other service projects as well throughout the year. What’s important is that the service is important to your chapter members and that you are making a positive impact in your community.

Lucyana - At the local, state, and international levels, HOSA has student leaders. Chapter officers serve in this role at the local level. Each chapter has a slightly different process for selecting officers, but it is important to understand the strengths of each officer and divide up the work accordingly. Generally, officers meet with the chapter advisor to make meeting plans and create a program of work, which is the schedule of activities, events, projects, and fundraisers that the chapter will do over the course of the year. This underlined link takes you to some additional details. (Take a breath) When running meetings, it’s important to have a clear plan because the time will go quickly. An agenda can be created and shared with members. It’s also important to take notes of decisions made during the meetings - these notes are called minutes. Use meeting time to plan for upcoming events, and include something fun to help increase attendance and build community. Gary has some ideas to share with you.

Host a guest speaker

- Bring in a medical professional from various fields. Ex: Pediatrics,

Emergency Medicine, Orthopedics, etc.

Do a hands-on activity

- Pickle autopsy, learn to suture, Med Term games, extract DNA from strawberries

Team-building activities

- Scavenger hunt, pictionary, Kahoot, spaghetti towers, t-shirt design contest

Service projects

- Make first aid kits, host a stuffed animal drive for children's hospital, write

and deliver cards to local long-term care residents

Moving on from how to run the meetings is some ideas on how to keep the members engaged and wanting to come back to future meetings. Personally, speaker series at my school were exciting and a way for me to learn from experts and their path through med school.

Setting up a guest speaker from any medical field is a great way to keep your members involved while also helping them learn about something that they may not know much about.

Hands-on activities. These could help prepare your members for future learning or competitive events.
If a chapter wants to have a longer meeting where the members can see a career field in action, documentaries are a great resource.

Service projects are great to bring awareness to your chapter while also helping someone in need. A couple examples are listed above but simple research can once again help find many more ideas. This is just a basic list of meeting ideas that might help your chapter boost the productivity of its members and helps boost the reputation of your organization.

Two of the biggest challenges for chapters when it comes to attendance are letting members know when meetings are and getting people to want to come.

To combat the issue of communication, make sure you have established channels to reach your members. This could be in the form of an email list or even certain apps like GroupMe or the BandApp. And if your school does some sort of morning or afternoon announcements, make sure that you are a part of those announcements a few days before your next meeting to give people a chance to plan ahead.

Another big issue is getting people to want to be at your meetings. We want to always find ways to benefit out members with the time we are given. So make your meetings engaging. Gary shared some ideas on a previous slide. My favorite meeting activity is playing kahoot. Having food always helps too!!

There are so many different ways to fundraise for your chapter, and there are many options as long as you are willing to put in the time and planning required to make your event a success.

Your chapter can sign up to run concessions at sports games in your school. Or, you can also use the publicity from those events and set up a table or booth and promote HOSA during games. Some restaurants have fundraiser programs - check into your local options.

Another idea is to organize some sort of sale. You can sell snacks, first aid kits, HOSA merch, medical supplies like stethoscopes, cute band aids, etc., or even design things like buttons, stickers, or keychains and sell them while also promoting your chapter and attracting more members.

And lastly, if you are looking towards finding local donors to support your chapter, you can email or write to companies and organizations and ask for their support. It is important that, if you decide to do this, you are professional.
