IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The Diploma

Model

12 of 55

The Diploma Programme Model Deconstructed

  • At the centre is the STUDENT

  • Moving outward is the LEARNER PROFILE, ten qualities and characteristics that define an IB Education

  • APPROACHES TO TEACHING AND LEARNING follow by providing a framework for curriculum

  • Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity and Service are the IB Core. It is this component that distinguishes IB from other programs such as AP

The Diploma Programme Model Deconstructed

The 6 SUBJECT GROUPS come next. They include:

  1. Studies in Language and Literature (English)
  2. Language Acquisition (French)
  3. Individuals and Societies (Business, History)
  4. The Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science)
  5. Mathematics
  6. The Arts (Music, Visual Arts)

Students take courses in these subject areas, with some variances, over two years.

INTERNATIONAL MINDEDNESS completes the model and unifies all the other components.
