Overview

Currently, the CBS Sports app onboarding process isn’t up to standards with its competitors. Comparing our app to competitors allows us to improve the current design of the onboarding process, making it easier for users to create accounts. ��

CBS Sports App: ��1. Title �Pros: Video playing in background �Cons: “Continue” → doesn’t really engage user, or give enough information to what is followed up by it. �Comparing Copy: �The Score- “Get started”

ESPN- “Log In”

Bleacher Report- “Pick Teams”�--------------------�Things to keep in mind: “I already have an account” → maybe be more direct in copy (Log In, Get back in the game, Sign in etc.)��3. Pick Your Teams �Pros: Drop down + Search�Cons: Limited options, only teams. �Comparing: �The Score- Leagues → Teams → Customize Alerts → League Order (all before you create an account)�After you create an account you unlock customizing Friends + Editing Profile

ESPN- Teams → Players → Sports → Podcasts (after you create an account- ESPN forces user to create an account first)

Bleacher Report- Sports, League, Teams, Interests, Fantasy & Players, Shows (all before you create an account)�----------------------�Things to keep in mind: CBS Sports app does not need to include each and everything that some of the other apps include. �For ex: CBS already has a fantasy app, doesn’t need to include fantasy. CBS Sports isn’t too sociable driven so doesn’t need to include friends, or interests (in related field since this is Sports only).

The first 5 screens show the initial onboarding process. Hitting the issues of little personalization, and not prioritizing or engaging the user to create an account. ��

Rather than on the bottom, place on the top.�Maybe place star to the right of it to show it�as a “favorites bar/section”�Place above the NFL- maybe a different color background to show seperation

Feed doesn’t relate back to favorited. In this example, I only favorited the Giants. Therefore the feed should maybe be more on the NFL than showing NBA content

CBS Sports App: ��4. Team Picking�Pros: Able to star- clearly shows when user has clicked�Cons: Logo gets placed on bottom- stay consistent → you star it, goes wherever (top or bot) and have a star next to it to indicate �Comparing: �The Score- When you pick your favorite league- shows teams within that under “Popular Teams” while also having the rest separated by league-- places team on a “favorites” line on the top next to a star

ESPN- Allows you to pick, highlights border and shows up in the section on your profile

Bleacher Report- gray ‘+’ becomes a green box with a check mark ��5. Feed�Pros: Easy to understand�Cons: This is the screen directly after picking your favorite teams- there is no instruction or direction given to continue to creating an account. It can be fixed easily with a pop up or a screen before saying to complete your account by signing up (through facebook/google/email) �

*I had a super hard time locating even where to find making an account since in the hamburger menu there was no Profile icon / section. It’s hidden in settings...which is the last item when you scroll down in that menu�

The user just went through the onboarding process, do we need a pop up asking to do either of those options- and let it go directly into making an account.�

CBS Sports App: ��6. Settings + 7. Account Creation�Pros: Clearly states to log in/ sign up�Cons: Creating account shouldn’t be in settings? Or at least not at the very bottom of the menu

Comparing:�The Score- Has a profile icon on ‘home/feed’ page. Tap on it and sign up/log in immediately brings you to tha

ESPN- Simply when you open the app makes you create an account or sign in

Bleacher Report- Includes it in the onboarding before you hit feed/homepage. “Winners don’t quit. Finish registration to save your teams” → either with phone/email/google/facebook

--------------------�Things to keep in mind: If the user doesn’t spend much time on your app to find where to create an account, then there is a low chance of the user creating one since there is no real insensitive. ��8. Input Info �Pros:�Cons: No username picking, easier to sign back in with username than to type email �Comparing: �The Score- Facebook/email - First/last name, email, phone

ESPN- Email + Password when you first open the app (Sign Up) **easiest one

Bleacher Report- Option to make an account with google/fb to make it quicker and easier for user → choosing a username → phone # → Connect Contacts → Profile Photo → takes you to homepage, logged in and ready to create a post

Problems to Solve

Not many personalized items throughout the initial process. Only allowed to pick teams through the onboarding process.

Account creation isn’t a priority- choosing teams are above it. Creating an account is done after the onboarding process, if user taps into their settings.

Onboarding goes straight from to picking teams to a feed. Feed doesn’t match what the user might have picked for their favorite team / league of team.

After creating account, there still isn’t enough personalization on users profile compared to other apps.
