By choosing this option, Google will assign you a new number for students to call.

Even though Google will assign a new number, you must provide an active number.

Change phone type based on phone you are using.

Click continue.

Click “Call me now” to enter the verification code.

*VC will be different for every user.

**First paragraph will also be different for first time users.

Once you have entered VC, type in desired area, zip code, or city. I chose “Chicago.”

Click “Search Numbers.”

Choose your desired Google phone number. Number you choose will be the one given to students.

Click “continue.”

You have finished setting up Google Voice.

Your Google number will show in this box.

Click “Finish” to be directed to your voice homepage.

Once you have been redirected to Voice homepage, locate the “settings” button (red circle) to modify recommended settings.

Choose the tab “Calls.”

Make sure “Ask unknown callers to say their name” box is checked.

Check “Enable ‘Do Not Disturb’” to send students’ calls straight to voicemail.*

*This is ideal for the school setting so students’ calls don’t cause your personal phone to ring. They will simply be prompted to leave a V.M.

You can go back to “Inbox” to bring you to your Voice homepage.

This is where you will monitor students’ calls. When students call your Google number, their V.M. will be dropped into your “Voicemail” box.

Click on “Voicemails” to learn what you can do with their messages!

When you are in the “Voicemails” tab, you will see a list of voicemails students have left. When a student calls, Voice will transcribe the message left.

Click “more” and “Email” to share file with other individuals.

*This could be used to have students self-critique or peer-critique.

Enter desired email.

Make sure box “Include a link to this message” is checked.

Click “Send.”
