  • The Enrollment Specialist and Transition Counselor will be offering Application and Enrichment workshops starting in October on Wednesdays during Flex
  • Must complete the FAFSA by designated dates to receive the first 2 years of Free Tuition
  • The Promise Program provides supports and priority registration
  • Free tuition program is first come first serve so funds are limited-complete in a timely manner!
  • After students apply, complete the FAFSA and CAP (career academic planning) then they will met with the Sierra College Transition Counselor to choose classes based on their goals
  • Students will receive their date and time for priority registration after the above steps have been completed.

so you can receive fee waivers for SAT/ACT, AP tests and college applications.

YES for the District Scholarship

YES for applying to private schools with the Common Application

NO for CSU/UC applications

Questions to ask yourself:

Ask for Letters of Recommendation

  • Complete the Counselor Letter of Recommendation & Brag sheet in the Counseling Handbook
  • When requesting a recommendation ask your teachers and community members at least 3 WEEKS prior to when it is due
    • For your counselor, deadline to request a letter: October 17th
    • Do not ask for more letters than needed-make good choices
    • Letters for the District Scholarship will be submitted with Going Merry
    • Always check the FERPA waiver on college applications

You will NOT need letters of recommendation for the CSU’s or UC’s

  • Create a calendar with deadlines for admissions, financial aid, scholarships, deposit frees, housing fees, etc.
  • Submit applications Oct 1st-Dec1st
  • DEADLINE to submit UC/CSU application is DECEMBER 1st
    • Plan to have these deadlines met at least 2 days prior to the deadline
  • Decide what email address you are using and check your email regularly
  • Use an application checklist for each school you are applying for.

Financial Aid Presentation Dates:

English Available starting Oct. 5th

FAFSA OPENS October 1st and deadline is March 2nd for most state financial aid programs (Cal Grant)
