Nature of Science
Card Game Rules
Ice Drilling Program (IDP) icedrill.org icedrill-education.org
The scientist will try to determine the “Law” by playing cards; “Nature” will respond by playing cards according to the “Law”.
“Nature” responds according to a “Law” that he/she receives from the teacher.
Card Game Rules (cont.)

When the scientist/s makes three consecutive correct hypotheses--they will have a valid theory.
Nature will NEVER tell the scientist if he/she is correct or not, and will NEVER reveal the “Law”.
The scientist must be satisfied with his/her theory—unless someday the theory is proven incorrect.
Players change places, get a new “Law” and play again

You will all be playing the role of scientists working together.
The presenter’s camera will show the cards as Nature responds to the scientists’ observations and hypotheses according to the “Law of Nature.”
