An opportunity to reactivate key skills and procedures, to practice and deepen the Knows. This routine could be used as a 10 minute “warm up” or “exit pass”

Questions are designed with a purposeful concept (or objective) in mind to maintain prior learning. In the following examples, each day includes three ‘number’ tasks as well as one task from another maths strand.

As teachers rove around the class noticing the responses of ākonga, they could choose one of the tasks to delve into and generate discussion (discuss and defend)

The following slides are some examples of questions (year 3-4ish) that could be asked in a 10 minute revisitNretain routine up to three times a week.

When designing your own questions you could use examples

from Assessment Resource Banks, textbooks, PATs etc.

NA2-4: Know forward and backward counting sequences with whole numbers to at least 1000

  • Know how to read and write number sequences to 1000,
  • Know multiples of one ten, e.g. 358, 348, 338 and one hundred, e.g. 647, 547, 447
  • Name the number before and after any given number (1s, 10s, 100s) e.g. 800 becomes 799, if 1 is removed and 608 becomes 598 if 10 is removed
  • Understand the nested view of place value, e.g. 456 has 45 tens 6 ones,
