PTA: What’s Happening

  • STEM event is on 2/12, 5-7 pm in the school gym. Volunteers needed.
  • Holi celebrations on 3/13, details to follow.
  • Parent information session, Sneak-a-peek, details to follow.
  • Plan to organize a parent’s night out. Interest?
  • We are looking for the positions of President, Vice President, Events, and Middle School chairs for 2026-2028. Please reach out to us at nominations@ps37pta.org for details and information.
  • Ways to contribute efforts and time towards making the school better: Parent hotline, BoE Meetings, email councilwoman elect for ward E.
  • A big THANK YOU to the friends and family of Ricky Jimenez for their generous donation for our Kindness Box initiative pioneered by our Kindness committee.

Cordero Leadership: What’s Happening

  1. Middle School Open House- We’ve done 2 in house and attended P.S. #16
  2. Pre K Open House 1/22- Inform friends in the community so they may see all we offer
  3. Extra curricular programs- LEAP, OG Phonics(K-2) PM, Phonics (3-8)AM,
  4. District Science Fair today- Proud of our students
  5. Spelling Bee- 2 Students will represent our school in the district
  6. Maintenance- Art Room ready. Auditorium- Looking in to roof before beginning.
  7. School Sign- Up and running
  8. Exterminators- Weekly. Covering Holes.
  9. Dinner Dance-2/27- Spread the word it is a fun filled event (Chandelier)
  10. Technology Use- Meeting for any clarification on 1/20 @ 9:30.
  11. Mid-Terms/ Star Assessment
  12. Enrichment Committee- Checking calendar. Looks good to go

  • Caucus meetings are now on Mondays at 5:30 the week of the BOE meetings. You can attend in person, but they are not streamed online
  • Regular meetings will be held on Thursdays starting at 5:30. You can attend in person or stream via the district social media pages. You must attend in person in order to speak, and register in advance.

PTA Board Updates

  • PreK’s Kidokinetics Program is 80% funded through end of February.
  • We’d like to continue beyond February but need parent donations to do so.
  • Please look for fundraising flyer in PreK backpacks this week!
  • Reminder: tomorrow is the Chipotle fundraiser to benefit the program. Please show Chipotle flyer in store!

With the help of 5th graders and the Jimenez Family’s generous donation, the Kindness Committee was able to raise $338 for The Little Kindness Box!

Stay tuned, the building will start in the Spring!

Kindness Matters!

Our school will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week next month. Children and staff will be spreading kindness like confetti around the school!

Posters and crafts will be shared throughout our school to create a ripple effect of positivity, boost self esteem and promote empathy.

JCPS Parent Ambassador Meeting

Monthly meetings hosted by Superintendent Dr. Fernandez with a parent representative  from each district public school to discuss topics of interests

Mental Health Grant – Project Resilience

JCPS received a renewed four-year federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health to continue Project Resilience, supporting students’ mental wellness and resilience. The district will receive $1.25 million in Year 1..

Community Use of Schools and Future Planning

Dr. Fernandez met with City Hall and the Recreation Department about community use of school buildings. The district is open to community use, provided there is a clear plan to ensure safety

JCPS Recreation Facilities

The district is exploring NJ state recreation grant to help repair the 16 school swimming pools; 4 need major structural work.

Hudson County awarded a $750,000 open space grant, with Jersey City contributing $350,000, for repairs to the Caven Point field.

Salt and Snow Removal

There is no shortage of salt for melting ice. Issues with snow or ice removal at or around the schools should be reported to principal.

Pest Exterminators.

Dr. Galano (Division B Director) is monitoring ongoing extermination, filling in access holes, removal of food trash more frequently throughout day.,

Art Room Renovation

The room has been demolished. A timeline for remodeling is pending; the Division Director will follow up.

Auditorium Steps

Steps leading onto the stage were covered with plywood. Facilities will be contacted regarding permanent repairs.
