Very early on into my role as ACC for Kelvin College, I quickly found out that there was a demand from a couple of students in particular to establish a recreational Volleyball Club. I was told that there was nothing in place despite efforts being made in the past.��The natural step for me then was to find out what other students at the college were interested and what had previously been tried before and why this had not worked. I found that there was a good number of students, particularly sports coaching students who were keen to play and could commit to specific days and times. On top of this, it was evident that staff members at the college had tried but ultimately couldn’t commit to running a club, therefore, someone in my role could commit to more time and effort working alongside students to establish a club. At the same time, I was also exploring how to go about making sure we could book the hall for specific times and dates as well as having the required equipment and very much learning alongside the students.��Initial Glasgow ACC's meeting we felt there was scope to establish matches between the colleges. City of Glasgow had something already established (Bucs team?) but felt there was an opportunity for more students to part take in something less competitive.�Clyde didn't have anything in place but felt there was scope to develop something and gauge student interest.��With each of the 3 colleges being situated in the Glasgow area, Natalie, Gregor and I felt it made sense to work together on this project and see if the close geographical location of the colleges helped with student engagement, with matches being held at each of our campuses.��We wanted to focus these festival type matches on being entry level standard where students who may not have had a lot of experience in Volleyball could come along and play as well as those who had experience or had potentially played competitively. We wanted to ensure that it was open to all and that everyone felt comfortable to join in.��This was a pilot and the first real cross college sport activity we had done together since being in post.��
