What not to bring

  1. Electronics which you cannot carry easily (no chromebooks) The bus will not be secure so it is not recommended to bring things of value that need to stay on the bus.

  • Do not overdress. It is supposed to be 10 and partially sunny. You will be walking and going in and out of heated buildings (some are meant to imitate hot climates and are very warm). You should wear a coat, and a pair of mitts would be a good idea. Sneakers will be perfect for footwear. The zoo pathways are well kept, winter boots are not necessary.

Attendance

Your teacher must know where you are at all times. If you need to go to the washroom, please let him/her know. Travel with a buddy at all times.

Practice patience. You may be ready to move on, but your group may not.

Manners please. You are representing our school. If there are other people at the zoo, give them space in the exhibits. Don’t jump in front of them or crowd them. If walking towards another group or other visitors, move to the right of the walkway.

Respect the Zoo

Remember the exhibits are the animals’ homes, speak in a normal tone of voice. Do not yell or tease them. You will be able to observe them more clearly if you observe quietly.

Put litter/recycling in its place. Clean your table after lunch.

Learn - the Calgary Zoo has an excellent reputation for the conservation and protection of animals. Read the signs, talk to the zoo workers and volunteers.

Look for signs like these….

These signs give important information such as:

names of the animals, conservation status, what they eat, where they live, adaptations and behaviour….etc.

Take time to learn about the different animals and their habitats.

Observe

Take time to observe things you have been discussing in science class:

-Physical/Behavioural adaptations

-Symbiotic relationships

-The zoo is organized in world habitats

-Signs will tell you if an animal is endangered or at risk due to poaching or destruction of habitat.

Have a great day!
