School Hours

  • Classes are from 7:00-1:20
  • The building will be open from 6:30 until 1:20
  • Students staying for clubs/activities that are held after school hours must stay with their teacher/advisor for the duration of their time on campus.

Before School

  • When the building opens at 6:30, there are two options:
    • 1) Wait in the quad area outside.
    • 2) Have free breakfast in the cafeteria.
      • If you are in the cafeteria, you need to be seated.

STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE HALLS UNTIL THE FIRST BELL RINGS AT 6:55!!!

TARDY POLICY (before school)

  • If you are late to school, a parent/guardian will need to sign you in at the front office.
  • If you are not signed in, you will be subject to having your backpack/personal belongings inspected for safety reasons.
  • Your parent will be contacted each time you are late.
  • After your third tardy to school, you will receive lunch detention each time you are late.

TARDY POLICY

  • Tardy Lockouts will be in effect every period of every day.
  • If you are late, the door to your class will be locked.
  • Get a tardy pass from the Student Success Office.

  • When you return to class, politely knock on the door and show your teacher your pass.
  • Quietly walk to your seat and get out your materials.
  • Your teacher will provide you with any specific instructions or directions when they are ready.

CONSEQUENCES (Periods 3-8)

  • 1st Tardy: Warning
  • 2nd Tardy: Warning
  • 3rd Tardy: Parent Notification
  • 4th Tardy: Lunch Detention/Parent Notification
  • 5th Tardy: Lunch Detention/Parent Notification/Probation
  • 6th Tardy: In-House Suspension for the period
  • 7th Tardy: In-House Suspension for a school day
  • 8th Tardy: Insubordination-RPC

Denial of Credit

  • A student with more than 10 unexcused absences will not receive credit for their class.
  • A grade of “F” will be given for that class.
  • Students will be placed on probation and risk not returning the following year.
  • Students are allowed a maximum of 10 excused absences per semester.

Dress Code

Before entering the building, make sure you

are in dress code

  • Skirts and shorts must be longer than fingertip length.
  • Shirts cover the shoulder with a sleeve at least 3 inches wide (not 3 fingers, no crop tops or tank tops)
  • No skin showing between the shirt and waistline.
  • No rips or tears in pants/shorts that show skin above fingertip length.
  • No leggings unless they are under shorts, skirt, or a long shirt.
  • No sagging.
  • No headgear (hats, hoodies, beanies, durags, bandanas).
  • Shoes must have soles (no house shoes/slippers, thong sandals).
  • No obscene or inappropriate language on clothing or backpacks.
  • No alcohol/drug references.

Food/Drinks/Gum

  • Breakfast and lunch are free. One meal per person per day (one breakfast and one lunch).
  • No food, drinks, or gum in the classroom.
  • All food from the cafeteria needs to be eaten at a table, put away in your bag, or thrown away at the end of breakfast/lunch.
  • No gum chewing in class.

Cell Phones/Nuisance Items

  • Cell phones are to be turned off and be in cell phone pouch. They must be placed out of sight during instructional time.
  • 1st offense, warning.
  • 2nd offense, phone will be confiscated and taken to the Student Success Office.
  • Parents/Guardians will need to come to the SSO to retrieve phone.

PASSES

  • Passes are required for all students when not in class during instructional time.
  • No passes during first or last ten minutes of class.
  • No backpacks or phones are allowed when out of class on a pass.
  • Students sent out of class without an approved pass and/or found with a backpack/phone will be escorted back to class and cell phone will be confiscated.

Bullying/Cyberbullying

Bullying, cyberbullying, harassment and intimidating another student or students is not only against the rules of CCSD and OCMS, but it is also against the law!!!

Bullying- Unwanted and repeated written, verbal, or electronic expressions or physical acts or gestures, or any combination thereof, that are directed at a person or group of persons, or a single severe and willful act or expression that is directed at a person or group of persons.

Examples

  • Name-calling, insults, biased language, slogans, jokes, and/or comments (verbal or written)
  • Pictures, symbols, graffiti, artwork, distribution or display of hate material
  • Social media posts, texts, media images, or other electronic displays of hate material
  • Gestures, posturing, body language, mocking to intimidate or to harm based on an individual’s or group’s bias against the target
  • Physical altercations, threats, or intimidation toward a group or individual (race, ethnicity, skin color, etc.)

Bullying/Cyberbullying

Consequences- Depending on the severity of the incident, bullying/cyberbullying can result in: RPC, suspension, STAR-ON, Expulsion, removal from OCMS i3 Learn Academy of a combination of any of these. Law enforcement also may be involved and you may need to go to court and see a judge for further punishment.

Cafeteria/Quad Expectations

  • Walk in the quad/hallways at all times!
  • Form single file line around the perimeter of the cafeteria.
  • After you get your food, find a seat and remain seated while eating. If you are in the cafeteria or in the table area, you need to remain seated.
  • Pick up after yourself and help keep it clean!

Fighting

  • Fighting will not be tolerated!
  • Students witnessed recording fights will have their phones confiscated and may face disciplinary consequences as well.
  • Students discovered promoting drama and/or fighting will face disciplinary consequences.
  • Students posting and/or commenting on fights on social media will be disciplined for cyberbullying.

If you are having problems with someone, tell an adult!

Expellable Offenses

Vaping

  • Vaping will not be tolerated.
  • If you are caught selling or giving a vape or other drugs/alcohol to another student, you will be expelled!
  • If you are caught in possession of a vape (any kind) or other drugs/alcohol, you will be suspended for 5 days and assigned 20 days in STAR-ON.
  • If you are caught in possession of a vape (any kind) or other drugs/alcohol a second time, you will be referred to a behavior school and removed from attendance at OCMS.
  • CCSD Police will be contacted and legal consequences will be issued by them as well.

Public Displays of Affection (PDA)

  • Student PDA is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to):
    • Holding hands
    • Hugging
    • Kissing/“Making Out”
    • Other overly affectionate gestures
  • Students caught engaging in PDA will be subject to consequences ranging from warning, to RPC, and up to/including suspension or expulsion depending on the severity of the infraction.

Transportation

  • Riding the bus is a privilege that can be revoked for students who do not follow driver directions or engage in unsafe practices.
  • Depending on the infraction, a student may receive:
    • a warning
    • a bus suspension
    • an RPC from school
    • loss of bus privileges for the school year

Chromebook Use

  • You are responsible for proper usage of your chromebook. Downloading unauthorized applications, researching inappropriate topics, recording inappropriate videos, or other activity/action that is not appropriate could result in loss of Chromebook privileges.
  • You are responsible for ensuring you have your Chromebook with you and charged, every day.
  • Keep all usernames and passwords safe and to yourself-do not share them!

You are responsible for the care and condition of your Chromebook. The following fines may be applied for misuse and damage caused by negligence:

  • Broken hinges: $20
  • Broken screen: $60
  • Broken touchpad: $50
  • Broken cover: $40
  • Broken keyboard: $60
  • Broken motherboard: $105
  • Missing charger: $35
  • Missing key: $5 per key
  • Missing barcode label: $10
  • Stolen device: $125
  • Total loss: $276

Magnet Contract

ACADEMIC STANDARDS

1. Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of a 2.0 (C average).

2. Students who earn a D or F in coursework will be placed on probation as defined by the school.

ATTENDANCE STANDARDS

1. Students must maintain good attendance while attending a magnet program.

2. Students that earn 10 or more absences (excused or unexcused) within a semester will be placed on probation.

3. Students accumulating excessive tardies will be placed on probation after their 5th tardy.

BEHAVIOR STANDARDS

1. Students that receive a suspension will be placed on probation.

2. Students that are referred for expulsion and/or are formally expelled will be dismissed from the magnet program.

3. Students earning an N-needs improvement or U-unsatisfactory will be placed on probation.

Students that do not meet the obligations of their probation may be dismissed from the program at the end of the school year or prior to the following school year.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  • Learn your teachers’ classroom procedures and expectations.
  • Follow directions the first time.
  • Don’t argue with requests made by an adult; something small can turn into something big and lead to bigger consequences for you.
  • If you have a problem with something, find an adult on campus who can help you and ask for help!
