Harmful Algal Blooms
Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System at Scripps works to predict and track harmful algal blooms, providing scientific data and information necessary to address coastal issues.
Imaging Flow Cytobot (IFCB) moorings are automated camera systems that capture images of phytoplankton and relay them to shore, providing researchers with continuous monitoring for harmful algal blooms.
Team of scientists working to better predict HABs, which can be devastating to fisheries and marine mammals.

California Coastal Research Vessel
New vessel being designed with a hydrogen-hybrid propulsion system that will enable it to operate with zero-emission capabilities, a first-of-its-kind system in the maritime industry.
CCRV will be the first liquid hydrogen-powered ship in America, leading the way globally and towards UC’s Carbon Neutrality Initiative
Vessel will be dedicated to California research missions and student training
$35 million was allocated to the vessel from the California state legislature
