Understanding denial of service attacks

What is a denial of service attack?

• A cyber-attack that attempts to make a computer, network, or service unavailable

Why perform a denial of service attack?

• An effective DoS attack can take down an entire company for an extended period of time resulting in a huge loss of revenue
