The 1st and 2nd sign
of the 7 signs of the glory of Christ in John
“The time of Christ has come”
John 2 : 1 – 11
John 4 : 46 - 54
2
John 2:1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; 2 and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “What business do you have with Me, woman? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He tells you, do it.” 6 Now there were six stone waterpots standing there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing two or three measures each. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.
3
John 2:8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” And they took it to him. 9 Now when the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the groom, 10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the guests are drunk, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.”
4
John 2:11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and revealed His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
Many people desire miracles
But only a few understand the sign of the glory of Christ in the miracles of Christ
5
John 2:11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and revealed His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
A sign tells us that we are near
something of importance
6
The 1st and 2nd sign occurred when Jesus
was in Cana
What was the connection between the 2 signs ?
7
The 1st sign of the glory of Christ
The wedding in Cana
John 2 : 1 - 11
8
John 2:1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; 2 and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.
A wedding is the sign of the beginning of
the life of a groom and a bride
Jesus came to the wedding
9
John 2:3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”
The failure of man’s effort
The wine ran out
Without the wine to quench the thirst,
the life of the groom and bride will be like in a desert
10
John 2:3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “What business do you have with Me, woman? My hour has not yet come.”
Exo 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged on the land which the Lord your God gives you.
The failure of the Law
The mother of Jesus failed to get the blessings of Christ thru the Law
11
John 2:4 And Jesus said to her, “What business do you have with Me, woman? My hour has not yet come.”
The time of Christ has not come
When man still depends on own effort and the Law
12
This is what happened in Cana :
The life of the groom and the bride
has become like in the desert.
No drinks
13
Jonh 2:5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He tells you, do it.”
The mother of Jesus has changed
Now she did not depend on the Law,
but she depended on Christ
14
John 2:6 Now there were six stone waterpots standing there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing two or three measures each. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” And they took it to him.
There were 6 waterpots
But the 6 waterpots were useless,
because they were only used for religious activities
There were 6 days of creation
But those 6 days are wasted when
a man was still following religion,
Man will suffer in the desert
15
John 2:6 Now there were six stone waterpots standing there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing two or three measures each. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” And they took it to him.
There were 6 waterpots
Now those 6 waterpots became useful
after
they were filled with the water from Christ
16
John 2:9 9 Now when the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the groom,
Miracle happened
Jesus has turned the water into a good wine
The previously useless waterpots became
a place holder of the good wine
Christ has made the 6 days creation
to become good blessings
for the bride and the groom
17
John 2:9 Now when the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the groom, 10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the guests are drunk, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.”
Christ has changed the life of the groom and the bride
From previously without drinks like living in the desert, to a life that just gets better
in the kingdom of heaven
18
John 2:11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and revealed His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
The 1st sign of the glory of Christ
Miracle in the wedding in Cana
Christ comes into our life,
so that we will not live in the desert
but we can live as a bride in His kingdom

Christ came so that the 6 days of creation become a blessing in our life,
thru the blessings in day 7 of creation
Gen 2:3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
20
This is the 1st sign of the glory of Christ
Christ has come so that His bride
that has left the way of religion will enjoy a life
that just gets better in the kingdom of heaven
and tastes the love of Christ
21
The 2nd sign of the glory of Christ
The healing of the royal official’s son
John 4 : 46 - 54
22
John 4:46 Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had made the water into wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum.
Jesus came again to Cana,
to the same place where the 1st sign of His glory occurred
The 1st sign of the glory of Christ in Cana had a continuation
What was the continuation ?
23
John 4:46 Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had made the water into wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and began asking Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.
The royal official has enjoyed living in a royal palace, and followed the King who owned the palace
and yet he had a problem in life :
his son was sick and about to die
24
John 4:48 Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.”
Jesus desired that the royal official would be able to “see”
His signs and wonders
25
John 4:49 The royal official said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son is alive.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went home.
Jesus healed the son
who was sick and about to die
26
John 4:51 And as he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was alive. 52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son is alive”; and he himself believed, and his entire household. 54 This is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come from Judea into Galilee.
The royal official and his household ”saw” the signs and wonders of Christ and believed
27
This is the 2nd sign of the glory of Christ
Christ comes so that His disciples that has ”tasted”
the joy of living in His kingdom of heaven,
can also “see” the love and the blessings of Christ
to their families
28
The 1st and 2nd sign of the glory of Christ in Cana
Water turned into wine
The bride of Christ tastes the goodness of Christ
in their life
The son of the royal official was healed
The disciples of Christ see the goodness of Christ
on their families
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
Psalms 34:8
29
The 1st and 2nd sign of the 7 signs of
the glory of Christ
To all who has abandoned the way of self and religion, and depend on the love of Christ
the time of Christ has come
to bring the blessings of the kingdom of heaven
to His bride and His disciple, and all of their families
