The Role of the PTA
All schools are required to have a Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
These organizations:
PTAs can support schools in a number of ways, including:
PS20 PTA
You are an automatic member of the PTA!
The mission of the PS20 PTA is to provide support and resources to benefit the growth of the PS20 community of students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff; develop parent leadership and cultivate family involvement; strengthen ties with the local community; and procure funding for school support and initiatives, while embracing core principles of sustainability.
The PS20 PTA organizes and funds a number of things, including:
TL;DR
Fundraising support is needed more than ever this year!
The PS20 family has grown, and so has the school community’s needs. Your support helps fund essential PTA School Assistants, Arts + Gardening, Student + Teacher support, and so much more.
Every donation helps, large or small. Consider setting up a recurring monthly donation of $20 to PS20!
There are many ways to get involved and support PS20!
There are openings on both the PTA Board and the School Leadership Committee.
We’ll be hosting a PTA Open House & Fair on October 6 at PS20, with morning and evening sessions where you can meet PTA members and learn more about each committee.
BONUS: there will be guided school tours!

School Leadership Team (SLT)
The SLT meets monthly to read, review and discuss the school’s Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP). The CEP is a set of goals individualized for our school based on data collected by the DOE, such as attendance, test scores, etc. The CEP is a living document, meaning it grows and changes throughout the year with the DOE and SLT’s input. When we look at the goals, we work collaboratively to find the best possible ways to meet the goals with our unique community in mind.
Our Team consists of PS20 family members (parents, grandparents, guardians), staff members and Admins. Members are elected for two year positions by their peer group, i.e. parent members are elected by the parent body, during a PTA meeting.

We strive to keep our families informed of all the wonderful things happening in our school and community. We help send regular updates, manage the Konstella platform and school website, update the PS20 Handbook, manage flyer backpacking, and more – we are here to help parents, teachers, and staff communicate effectively at PS20!

Class Parent Leads
We Need You!
Classroom parent leaders act as a key point of connection between the school, the PTA, and each classroom, helping to provide updates, elevate concerns, and foster a sense of community within each individual class. Each classroom should have at least one class parent lead, and ideally two or more!
What Class Parent Leads Do:

We are seeking parents who want to support PS20 fundraising efforts with creative ideas and enthusiasm for rallying our community to meet our ambitious goals.

Green Arts Committee
Co-Chair(s): Abbas Hussein + Kyle Gates
Green Arts is an interdisciplinary hands-on educational approach that broadens students’ thinking and problem-solving abilities. We employ art and gardening/sustainability teachers who work with all grades and classes throughout the school week. We host beehives on the school roof, and collaborate with local institutions such as Fort Greene Park.
