NATIONAL DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAMME (NDLP)

  • The NDLP was launched in March 2020 to make digital learning inclusive by equipping students with the digital literacies to be future-ready.

  • Under the NDLP, MOE announced in 2020 that every student will own a school-prescribed personal learning device (PLD) by end-2021. Singapore Citizen students can use their Edusave Account to pay for the PLD.

HOW WILL YOUR CHILD USE THE PERSONAL LEARNING DEVICE?

At Woodgrove Secondary School, your child will be using the PLDs for a wide range of teaching and learning activities.

These include:

            • access to digital learning resources in class or at home
            • communication with teachers and peers
            • creation of digital products to demonstrate learning

FUNDING SUPPORT FOR SINGAPORE CITIZEN (SC) STUDENTS

  • The cost of the device bundle can be paid using your child’s Edusave account, after setting aside provision for payment of second-tier miscellaneous fees.

  • To ensure the affordability of devices, MOE has provided an Edusave top-up  of $200 in 2020 and $200 in May 2021 (as part of the Household Support Package announced in Budget 2021). This is on top of the annual $290 credited into the Edusave account for Secondary School students.

FUNDING SUPPORT FOR SINGAPORE CITIZEN (SC) STUDENTS

  • For students on MOE-FAS, subsidies are available even if there is insufficient Edusave balance. The cash out-of-pocket will be $0.

  • Subsidies will be provided for SC students who need support, particularly those whose Gross Household Income (GHI) is below $4,000 or Per Capita Income (PCI)# is below $1,000.

  • For more details on financial assistance, please approach the school.

#PCI is GHI divided by the number of household members.

FUNDING SUPPORT �FOR PERMANENT RESIDENTS (PR) AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (IS)

  • Permanent residents (PR) and international students (IS) who need support could apply for subsidies, particularly those whose Gross Household Income (GHI) is below $4000 or Per Capita Income (PCI)# is below $1000.

  • For more details, please approach the school.

#PCI is GHI divided by the number of household members.

The refreshed Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) was launched by MOE in 2021. Cyber Wellness lessons will feature significantly in the CCE2021 lessons.

SUPPORTING STUDENTS IN THE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE USE OF THE DEVICES – DEVICE MANAGEMENT APPLICATION

  • The Device Management Application (DMA) software will be installed on all students’ devices to provide a safe learning experience for your child, and to prevent misuse of the device.
      • Installation of the DMA will be performed after the collection of the device. Students will be guided on the installation
      • This applies to both devices purchased through the school and pre-existing student-owned devices

  • The DMA will be funded by MOE and will be uninstalled from the device when your child graduates/leaves the school.

DEVICE MANAGEMENT APPLICATION – MOBILE GUARDIAN

A Device Management Application (DMA), Mobile Guardian, will come pre-installed on all PLDs purchased through the school.

The DMA has 3 main components which will support the use of the PLD in the classroom and safeguard students’ cyber wellness.

Classroom Management Service. This enables teachers to manage the students’ use of the PLD during lesson time.

Mobile Device Management Service. This facilitates the updating and managing of the PLD, protects the PLD from malicious software, and protects students from objectionable internet content.

Usage Management Service. This enables the school and/or parents/guardians to better supervise and set helpful limits for students’ use of PLD after school.

The following DMA settings will be in place as a default:

  • MOE and the school will set the level of web content filtering, including filtering out social media sites, pornography, gambling, extremist and violence-related sites

  • The school will determine the apps and programmes to be installed to support teaching and learning

After school hours, parents may opt for the following settings:

  • Default Settings: The in-school DMA settings will continue to operate after school hours.

  • Option A: Parents/Guardians can modify DMA settings after school hours.

  • Option B: Parents/Guardians can disable the DMA after school hours.

Note:

  • For students who intend to use their own device, the DMA must be installed on their device.

  • Mobile Guardian is compatible with the following types of devices:
    • Chromebooks
    • iPADs

  • Students who own either of these types of devices and wish to use them as their PLDs, may bring them to school for DMA installation*. More details will be provided later.

*requires resetting the device to factory settings. Students will need to backup their devices on their own before DMA installation

Note:

  • For students who own a Windows-based laptop, they will NOT be able to use this device as a PLD for in-class learning.

  • These students may select one of the following two options:
    • Option 1: Place an order for the school-prescribed Chromebook

    • Option 2: Loan a school-owned Chromebook on a daily basis from the IT centre for in-class learning. This device will need to be returned at the end of each school day. Students can use their own devices for home-based learning.
