Crosstown Phase II

    • DDOT: The District Department of Transportation's mission is to equitably deliver a safe, sustainable and reliable multimodal transportation network for all residents and visitors of the District of Columbia.

How did we get here?

  • DC has a city-wide transportation plan called “MoveDC” which sets DDOT’s long-term goals.
  • MoveDC is getting an update now! Give your feedback: https://movedc-dcgis.hub.arcgis.com/
  • MoveDC called for a special study of the boarder area between NW and NE. This study is called the “Crosstown Multimodal Transportation Study” and was completed in 2016.
  • A major finding of the Crosstown Study was community requests from the community for protected bike lanes.
  • In 2017 DDOT started planning Phase I of the requested Crosstown protected bike lanes, which opened in September on Irving and Kenyon
  • We are now planning Phase II, which will be on Park and Warder

What happens now?

This project is on an approximately 16 month timeline, which can be broken into five chunks, each taking about 3-4 months

  1. Now through winter 2021: collect feedback and set project scope
  2. Spring 2021: start design of protected bike lanes
  3. Summer 2021: share draft designs for feedback on details
  4. Fall 2021: finalize design
  5. Break ground as soon as weather allows in 2022

  • Conversion of one travel lane on Park Pl to parking
  • Conversion of Park Rd to one-way eastbound, parking added to south side of street
