The River Thames
Roberto Barerra
Rivers have played an important role in human history. Since ancient times, towns, cities, and entire civilizations have thrived around rivers, which provide people with many of life’s necessities. One such river, the River Thames, has been instrumental in the founding and development of London.
The River Thames stretches 215 miles across southern England. More than eighty islands are scattered throughout its length. The Thames runs right through the center of London. This made the river essential to the growth and success of both London and the United Kingdom.
