To request a permission number for your course, find your subject area on the website linked in the box below and email the relevant contact(s) using your CSUMB email account.

Expect a response within 1-2 business days, but it may take longer during registration or add/drop periods.

EMAIL REQUEST TEMPLATE

The following is an example. Replace the words in [brackets] with your specific information. You can omit anything that doesn't apply to your situation.

Email Subject:

Permission Number Request - [SUBJ 101-01]

Email Body:

Hello [Advisor/Department Name],

My name is [Full Name], and I am a [Major/Program] student (Student ID: [000123456]). I am writing to request a permission number for the course [SUBJ 101-01].

I would like to enroll in this course because [brief reason].

I confirm that I meet the following prerequisites: [list prerequisites here], or [I have completed the required placement exam and here are my results], or [I have obtained permission from the instructor, which I have included].

I appreciate your assistance.

Log in to OASIS and select Student Center.

View the Academics Tab.

Select Enroll.

Select which Term you want to add the Permission Number for and press Continue.

    • If the class is already in your Shopping Cart, click the Class Name (it will appear in blue and be an active link).

    • If the class is not in your Shopping Cart, add it by entering the Class Number or using Class Search.

Using Permission Numbers: Step 6

Some (not all) Lecture courses include additional sections, such as Discussions or Labs.

After choosing your preferred options, click Next.

Using Permission Numbers: Step 7

Enter the Permission Number (Nbr) and then click Next.

From the Enroll tab in your shopping cart, click “Proceed to Step 2 of 3”. Confirm the requested classes, then select the Finish Enrolling button on the next screen.

    • See CSUMB’s Permission Number webpage to determine whom to ask. If the link above doesn’t work, search “CSUMB Permission Numbers”.

    • You can use permission numbers to enroll in the course or join a waitlist in OASIS.

    • If you're adding to a waitlist, check the box above the permission number field.

    • Permission numbers are unique to each individual and can be used only once.

    • A green checkmark (✅) indicates success
    • A red "X" (❌) indicates errors
      • Return to your shopping cart to resolve the error.
    • See CSUMB’s Registration webpage for more information about holds and how to resolve them.
    • Review all error messages thoroughly.
    • You might successfully enroll in some classes but have issues with others.
