How?

• Diversify our song selections to reflect our students and people they will meet in the world.
• Identify different types of identities, specifically social identities.

What is Social Identity?

Social identity is the part of an individual's self-concept that comes from their perceived membership in social groups. It's how people categorize themselves and others based on shared characteristics and group affiliations, like nationality, religion, or a specific profession. Social identity significantly influences how individuals behave, perceive others, and interact within and between groups.

Ethnicity, Gender, Religion, Age, Socioeconomic Status, Sexual Orientation, Ability/Disability, Hobbies, Friendship Groups, Fashion, and Musical Taste

What is the difference between STEADY BEAT and COLLECTIVE BEAT?

Steady beat is the ability to keep a consistent beat, which can be done on your own or with others, and can be guided by a recording or a music leader.

​

A collective beat is when a group plays together and agrees on a steady beat. If they lose the beat, they listen to each other to find the beat again.
