What is a crank pin journal-

  • A crankpin journal is a precision ground surface that provides a rotating pivot point to attach the connecting rod to the crankshaft. The throw is the measurement from the center of the crankshaft to the center of the crankpin journal, which is used to determine the stroke of an engine.

WHAT TOOL IS USED TO MEASURE THE CRANK PIN JOURNAL OF THE CRANKSHAFT -

The diameter of the main crankshaft journals should be calibrated by measuring with a micrometer taking two readings at right angles to each other and, again, the measurements recorded and looking for any ovality of the journal and also the crank pin

WHAT IS THE MEASURMENT OF PINS -

Hardened, ground & lapped measuring pins are available in standard steps of 0.002, 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.05mm. Length of measuring pins up to 1.50mm dia. is 40mm & above 1.51mm dia. it is 50mm. Measuring pins of 70mm in length are available from 1.00 to 10.00mm dia

WHAT CONNECT THE CRANK PIN TO THE MAIN JOURNAL -

The crank cheek connects the crankpin to the main journal. In some designs, the cheek extends beyond the journal and carries a counterweight to balance the crankshaft.

WHAT ARE THE TWO TYPES OF JOURNAL ON A CRANKSHAFT-

As can be seen above, there are two types of journal on a crankshaft - the main bearing journals form the axis of rotation for the crankshaft, and the connecting rod journals are secured to the ends of the connecting rods, which run up to the pistons
