Lab#0 Part 2: c) Calculate the 20 % and 80 % voltage levels, given a 2 V p-p input signal:

2Vpp

80% of 2V is 1.6V

20% of 2V is 0.4V

Use the Picoscope’s moveable vertical and horizontal markers to estimate the rise time (20-80%) and fall time (80-20%) of the output signal (Figure 3).

Calculate using formula (V(T) - V(0)) = (V(inf) - V(0) )exp( - t/tau)

Online lab students

  • Online Lab 5 will be marked by me. Students must prepare a *working* circuit and email me for a time during the lab hours. I will view the circuit and its output.
  • For labs 0 - 4, the instructions require showing the output of the circuit. Writing “person X saw it” does not meet the requirements.

Lab Kit Returns

All students must return the course lab kits.

  • Remove all components from the boards. Active components, chips and diodes should be put back into the foam they came from. Resistors, capacitors and connection wire for the circuit are considered consumables and can be thrown out.
  • Book a curbside drop-off time through the [link], and return your kit at the time. All students must have an appointment. No kits will be accepted outside of a scheduled appointment.
  • Kits will be inventoried to identify any missing components. Ensure the kits are returned as close to the way they were given out at the beginning of the term. Kits are expensive and any missing components are the responsibility of the student.
  • When before Dec 17 or after Jan 5

Program feedback: Sysc2004,2010,Elec3908 [link]

Biomedical and Electrical Engineering Program Feedback

We are consider a program change for the Carleton University BMEE program and are soliciting feedback from BMEE students.

  • ELEC 3908 Physical Electronics was a compulsory course in BMEE (and still is in Electrical Engineering (EE))
  • BMEE program evolved to allow students a choice between ELEC 3908 and SYSC 2004 Object-Oriented Software Development (SYSC 2004 is a compulsory course in other programs such as EE, Computer Systems Engineering (CSE), and Software Engineering (SE))
  • Recently, BMEE program evolved again to allow students a choice between ELEC 3908, SYSC 2004, and SYSC 2010 Programming Project

We are considering removing this choice and making SYSC 2010 compulsory for BMEE.

  • question 1 of the practice quiz for a 555 timer. It is required that the circuit function as an astable oscillator with output low- and high-periods of 20 ms and 30 ms, respectively. To make this happen, draw appropriate connections and select resistors RA and RB. This is what I thought but I'm not sure about this. Could you clarify what to do with the separate resistors?
