A Part of History: National and California Historic Landmark

  • Were added to the National Register of Historic Places in April 1977.
  • Were designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in March 1963, a California Historical Landmark in August 1990, and a U.S. National Historic Landmark in December 1990.
  • Featured in popular music, movies, TV shows, literature, and even video games.

Watts Towers by Kristi Reyes

Also known as Nuestro Pueblo ("our town" in Spanish)

A collection of 17 interconnected sculptural towers, architectural structures, and individual sculptural features and mosaics within the site of the artist's original residential property

Located in the Watts neighborhood of South Central Los Angeles - Watts Towers Arts Center - community arts center 1727 E 107th St, Los Angeles, CA

Created by Sabato (Simon or Sam) Rodia (1879 or 1886 - 1965), an Italian immigrant who came to U.S. at age 15. Rodia was a construction worker and tile mason

Watts Towers were built over a period of 33 years from 1921 to 1954

At age 42, Rodia began working on his masterpiece. Every day after work and all through the weekends, he would search for usable material and work, work, work. Carmen soon left him - according to Rodia, it was due to his obsession with the project.

The Rancho Buena Vista Adobe

  • The Rancho Buena Vista Adobe museum is located in Vista, Ca
    • 640 Alta Vista Drive, Vista
  • It’s known for being one of the best-preserved of the fabled land grant ranchos.
  • The home was built on land given by the government. The grant was given to Felipe Subria in 1845 by Gov. Pio Pico. Felipe was a Luiseño man who was “awarded” the land grant due to converting to Christianity at the Mission San Luis Rey.
  • It had many owners even a famous actress, Margarita Fischer
  • It was bought by the city of vista in 1989 as a historic treasure
  • How and/or by whom was it built/founded/formed/discovered/named?
    • It is a single-story adobe brick structure in the Monterey style, set on a two-foot thick cobblestone foundation.
  • People say it may be haunted
    • There is said to be a body buried in the walls of one of the rooms!
  • Today they host special events like weddings and tours to the public
  • I chose this place because I have seen it locally and plan to go with my family.

Mission San Luis Rey stands as a National Historic Landmark recognized for its significant contribution to the Spanish and Mexican heritage of the western United States.

It was founded by padre Fermín Lasuén on June 12, 1798,

• How and/or by whom was it built/founded/formed/discovered/named?

The current church, built in 1815

• Interesting Facts / Details / Features:

The first Peruvian Pepper Tree (Schinus molle) in California was planted here in 1830, now iconic, widely planted, and renamed the California Pepper tree in the state.

• How is it enjoyed today? By whom?

Today the mission complex functions as a parish church of the Diocese of San Diego as well as a museum and retreat center.

LADY BIRD LAKE in AUSTIN

Is a river-like reservoir on the Colorado River in Austin, TX.

The City of Austin created the reservoir in 1960 as a cooling pond for a new city power plant.

Now is used primarily for recreation and flood control.

Colloquially referred to as Town Lake.

The reservoir is named in honor of former First Lady of the United States, Lady Bird Johnson.

San Diego Zoo was founded in 1916, is administered by the Zoological Society of San Diego. In 1972 the Zoological Society opened the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Established in 1969 as a breeding facility for the zoo, the park began drawing its own visitors and subsequently was opened to the public as a complement to the San Diego Zoo.

San Diego Zoo is one of the best and largest zoos in the world, one of the rare zoos to accommodate and breed giant panda. Is home to more than 4,000 animals representing over 800 species. Located in Escondido, California, the Safari Park welcomes more than 1.5 million guests each year.

San Diego Zoo, one of the largest collections of exotic and endangered mammals, birds, and reptiles in the world, located in San Diego, California, U.S. The municipal zoo, it occupies a 100-acres (40-hectare) site in the city’s Balboa Park amid a setting of hills and canyons. A noteworthy feature of the zoo is its landscaping. More than 6,500 species of exotic plants are maintained on the grounds, adding atmosphere and frequently providing an element of the natural diet for various animal species.

The zoo is famous for its breeding colony of koalas, the largest one outside of Australia. The koalas thrive mainly because their sole food, eucalyptus, grows abundantly on the zoo grounds. The zoo also maintains successful breeding groups of gorillas, tigers, giraffes, hippopotamuses, bonobos (pygmy chimpanzees), Galapagos tortoises, and a wide variety of other animals. Its many notable exhibits include walk-through tropical rainforests, aviaries, a children’s zoo, a polar bear habitat with a chilled pool, an Asian river environment featuring tigers, and gorillas and Malayan sun bears in simulated natural habitats. The Frozen Zoo contains frozen specimens of tissue and genetic material that are used for research on and breeding of endangered species.

Joshua Tree National Park  Tomo

Joshua Tree National Park is located in east of LA. and north of Palm Springs.

In 1930s, stone tools and spear points being used in between B.C.8,000 and 4,000 were discovered.

It became a national monument in 1936 for protection, and redesignated as a national park in 1994.

It is named for the biblical figure Joshua by 19th-century Mormon settlers who felt the outstretched tree limbs guided them along their westward journey.

It is well-known for trees having unique shape, rocks, wild creatures, and camp.

  • A total of about 795,000 acres(1,242 mi2, 3,218 km2), 1.5 times as large as Tokyo prefecture where 1.3M people live.
  • It is more than 100F in summer and is below 32F in winter.
  • Tourists from all over the world visit Joshua Tree National Park.

I selected Joshua Tree National Park because it was the first place I traveled to after I came to the U.S. 11 months ago. I was so surprised its greatness and beauty.

Handing down this beautiful nature to the next generation is our duty.

Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge was constructed in 1937. Architect: Irvin Morrow. At the time of its opening, it was the tallest and longest bridge in the world. It has a span of 4,200 ft (1,280 m) and a height of 746 ft (227 m). The structure connects the city of San Francisco and Marin County. It has six lanes for autos, bicycles, and pedestrians.

Universal Studios Hollywood

  • The Universal Studios Is located in Los Angeles. It is one of the most famous amusement parks in the world.
  • It was first opened March 15, 1915 as a outdoor movie studio. Universal Studios Hollywood opened in July 15th, 1964
  • The first founder was Carl Laemmle, who opened a 230 acre ranch.
  • Interesting facts:
    • When the park first opened, it was just five cents to get in.
    • Filmmakers and celebrities used to do guided tours of the studios in the park.
  • In addition to the rides, the park also offers a show called “Water World”.
  • Today it is enjoyed by friends and family going together to enjoy the rides and visit the different themes that is offered like Mario, Despicable Me and more.

Conclusion: Because two years ago we were at Universal Studios Hollywood with my cousin her name was Vanessa, she was beautiful like an Angel, she came from Lima -Peru to visited Los Angeles we were all day at the park and we were enjoying a lot and the other day she take her fly to return to Peru. She gave me a big hug and told me I will return soon . two months later she get covid 19 and pass away in Lima. Universal Studios was one of the most wonderful place for me and my beautiful cousin.

I live in CALIFORNIA that means for the whole world

GOLDEN STATE . I get used to see gold on the beach in the water during my walks along the beach/

Fantastic golden beach in Carmel Valley. You can Boogie boarding, kayaking, swimming or playing with children or simple enjoying sunset. The beautiful Brother OCEAN,
