About Me:

  • I live in St. Joseph, MO
  • Teach in Smithville, MO at Eagle Heights Elementary, a PK-6 school
  • 22 year of teaching art; 1 year of HS & the rest elementary!
  • TAB/Choice teacher since 2013/14 school year
  • Covid = focused more on my own art making since we stayed home
  • Sought out online art workshops/classes

Dina Wakley - Mixed Media Artist

  • Designs products for Ranger Ink
  • Lives in AZ
  • During Covid she did free FB live sessions
  • “Art of Dina Wakley” FB page
  • Gloss Sprays - a permanent spray once dry
  • Demo’d using her products in multiple ways
    • @ school we used Art kits that fall & I focused on ways to use the contents of students supplies in multiple ways
  • Typewriters - for adding text & quotes to artwork - on my wishlist!
  • Can become a supporter for $5/month and she does weekly sessions for supporters of what she is currently doing/working on

How I used this at school:

*I made marker juice sprays for my students to use and demo’d using them in a splatter box we have for the paint center.

  • #the100dayproject is a free global art project that takes place online
  • You choose a creative project, do it every day for 100 days and share your process online
  • I decided to do this in 2021 - using what I had - library check out cards - used them as my base
  • Tip #1 - I decided to work ahead for those unforeseen days I simply couldn’t get one done
  • Tip #2 - use the hashtag to see others work and connect with other artists
  • Shared cards with students - inspired students to create something influenced by them - relief work & floral work

I gave most of these away as Christmas gifts. Kids could definitely make these at school next year. I also had many adults comment that they would like to have a class to make their own so I hope to an ornament making workshop with staff next year.

How I used this idea at school:

*I bought a group of vintage photos from an estate sale and laid them out on copy paper and photocopied them for my students to use in the collage studio.
