Book Selection Process

Nominating Team

3 phase process that typically takes a few months.

Designate a Nominating Team: Working with various departments in the library to select the OBOV title - staff who nominated books were chosen because of their expertise and roles in working with readers in the Arlington Heights community. Info Services Advisors, Librarian, Teen Librarian, Programs, Collections etc.

Brainstorm meeting to review goals and any target audience or specific nomination criteria.

Submit nomination through Survey Monkey.

Selection Team is a smaller subset of staff – usually approximately 6 people. Review nominations and work with collection services to verify formats. Begin vetting authors on a large scale.

Use the same criteria but really dig into: What makes this a good choice for One Book, One Village?

Selection team divides up remaining titles that have made the cut.

For example, we received 24 nomintated titles for nonfiction. 6 of them were not available in large type. Remaining 18 were divided up among 5 staff on selection team.

Reads and then passes along and shares with others if one rises to the top.

Recommendations and presentation to Library Administration team

Presentation to give the Rationale, the appeal, broad idea of programs.

Varies on how many titles.
