The Problem

We asked stay-home individuals about their experience accessing clean water to drink, cook and to do other domestic activities.

The names and images used to represent the people we spoke to have been changed to preserve their privacy.

The Problem

“What has been your experience with accessing clean water at home?”

Nnenna

Nigeria

Gloria 30,

Satellite Town, Lagos, Nigeria

“When there is no power we cannot pump clean water at home, and the water we buy from neighbours has a funny taste and is coloured. We cannot drink it or use it to cook.”

We always have to buy water because when we pump water it isn’t clean. And buying water it is expensive. We keep talking to our landlord to treat the pumped water but no response.

“We have our own borehole for pumping clean water, but we still have to buy cold drinkable water from stores outside. It is stressful having to go every time, someone bringing cold water to the house would be bae!”

We have to buy 3 bags of pure water every day to get drinkable and cook-able water. It is costly.

To get water to do anything at home, we buy 3 25 Litre Jerry Cans every day. We finish daily as we use it to bathe and cook.

The solution

Owmi is a multi-channel platform that distributes and increases access to drinkable water by connecting stay-home individuals to affordable managed neighbourhood water spots.

Basically, an on-demand clean drinkable water delivery and water treatment service using a chatbot and an app.

Owmi is a merge of Benita and Greg’s individual projects GoWater and FunOmi.
