The Value of Formative Assessment

Will not be doted upon or debated in any way today

Why are you Here?

  • Trying to bring your formative assessment game into the 21st-Century
  • Using Kahoot - stepping it up a notch
  • Using Quizizz and/or Quizlet already but tire of the question writing

No Worries!

You can do this no matter where you are at...

Let’s focus on Quizizz

Quizlet is similar (and it costs $$$!!!)

Step 1

10

Create a COPY of the Quizizz Question Template (a Google Form I have graciously provided!)

  • NAME it with the topic of the Formative Assessment - the same organizational structure used now - by chapter, unit, learning objective, etc.
  • Link the Form to a Google Sheet

Step 2

11

Send the renamed copy of the Quizizz Question Template to the stakeholders of your choosing:

  • Students - as an assignment, exit ticket, bell ringer, or bonus question on a lab.
  • Teachers - across the school site, district, or even…
  • Your PLN - form a question writing group and share your Quizizz quizzes with them (they’ll think you worked for hours on them, but you will only spend minutes!)

Step 3

12

Have a coffee and wait for the questions to magically appear. When your ready to make a Quizizz…

  • DOWNLOAD the Sheet as an .xlsx spreadsheet
  • Quickly VET the questions - you know your subject - easy fixes, sure, but dump the bad ones!
  • IMPORT into a Quizizz quiz - you are ready to assign it through your favorite LMS or possibly from Quizizz directly.

A quick look at Quizlet

13

I use Quizlet for study tasks, but you can use it as a formative assessment environment. Either way, you can still crowdsource the vocabulary and meanings…

  • Create a Google Form with 2 questions:
    • Word
    • Meaning, association, etc.
  • Send it out, collect the responses on a Google Sheet, download them to a .xlsx file
  • Import the pairs to a Quizlet study set.
