What is dual credit and how does it work?

Under two different State of Wisconsin programs, high school students may apply to take college or technical college courses for both high school and college credit. KUSD offers the following:

  • Earn both College and High school credit for courses.
  • Early College Credit program - Carthage, Parkside, Herzing
  • Start College Now program - Gateway Technical College
  • Deadline for both programs - October 1st (Spring Semester)

March 1st (Fall Semester)

Tuition and books for students enrolled in approved courses will

be paid by Kenosha Unified School District.

What is the difference between the two?

Start College Now

Early College Credit

Gateway Technical College program - open to students in grades 11 & 12. Students may take Fall and Spring classes.

This is the university program for both public and private colleges. It is open to students in grades 11 & 12. Students may take Fall, Spring and Summer classes.

Eligibility Requirements for Start College Now

Are you interested in this program? Read the important information below:

  • Open to students in good academic standings in grades 11-12
  • Fill out all of the application materials completely and accurately and meet with your counselor.
  • Meet the program deadlines of October 1st (Spring) and March 1st (Fall)
  • KUSD covers the cost of tuition and books, but there may be additional uncovered fees for some courses
  • Most Fall GTC courses start around the same times as KUSD school year starts, Spring course begin in January. Your GTC courses MUST work around your high school schedule.

If you fail or drop a SCN course outside the approved drop window,

you will be responsible for all costs of tuition and fees.

Complete the Transportation Agreement and Parent Agreement.

Request your transcript through Xello. Don’t forget all the signatures!

Complete the application (typed). Save as PDF and print single sided.

Bring ALL of the completed forms to your counselor by the deadline. Remember Oct. 1st for Spring and March 1st for Fall. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Eligibility Requirements for ECC @Carthage College

Are you interested taking classes at Carthage? Read the important information below:

  • Open to students in good academic standings in grades 9-12
  • Need to have a 2.0 GPA in English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Foreign Language
  • Turn in all application materials by the program deadlines of October 1st (Spring) and March 1st (Fall)
  • KUSD covers the cost of tuition and books, but there may be additional uncovered fees for some courses
  • Fall courses start in September and Spring courses start in February

If you fail or drop an ECC course outside the approved drop window,

you will be responsible for all costs of tuition and fees.

Eligibility Requirements for ECC @ UW-Parkside

Are you interested taking classes at Parkside? Read the important information below:

  • Open to students in good academic standings in grades 11-12
  • Need to have a 3.25 GPA or 23 ACT composite score
  • Follow the directions on the UW-Parkside website
  • Turn in all application materials by the program deadlines of October 1st (Spring) and March 1st (Fall)
  • KUSD covers the cost of tuition and books, but there may be additional uncovered fees for some courses

If you fail or drop an ECC course outside the approved drop window,

you will be responsible for all costs of tuition and fees.

Complete the online UW Parkside Application and register for orientation.
