productivity

Only a fraction of the organic matter produced in the surface ocean has the fate of being exported to the deep ocean. only a tiny fraction (typically much less than 1%) of the organic carbon from NPP in the euphotic zone survives to be buried in deep sea sediments. It is difficult for the sun’s rays to reach all the way down to the bottom as well.

New animal friends

The abyssal zone is home to about 300 different types of species. Most are obviously fish, but the fish in the abyss are different than the rest. Since the abyss is so dark, many of the species living here are blind. They hunt using sound and some are lucky enough to have light.

Plant life

Due to the lack of sunlight in this zone, it is impossible for plants to grown in this environment.

abiotic limiting factors

There are multiple factors here in this zone. Water pressure and lack of sunlight have a huge influence on the life forms that live in this zone.

Special features

The abyssal zone is part of the largest environment on planet Earth. Also, this zone is very calm. Since it is so deep in the ocean, it is rarely disturbed by rough waters and storms.
