WG Charge and Priorities

Priorities for FY23-24 :

  • Enforcing modularity for clear separation between the development of reconstruction algorithms and the development of the framework and its services
  • Embrace algorithmic development that utilizes the holistic information from detector components or the entire detector
  • Integrate far-forward and far-backward detectors in reconstruction
  • Implement a web-based event display.

Charge:

Development of a holistic and modular reconstruction for the integrated ePIC detector

Question: Are there any aspects you would like to adjust for the second year?

Priorities for FY23-24 :

  • Enforcing modularity for clear separation between the development of reconstruction algorithms and the development of the framework and its services
  • Embrace algorithmic development that utilizes the holistic information from detector components or the entire detector
  • Integrate far-forward and far-backward detectors in reconstruction (merge into point 2)
  • Implement a web-based event display. ( how to organize this? )

Propose to add:

  • Integrate the existing workflow to support advanced application development and physics analysis.

Year One Highlights

Key achievements and milestones:

  • Developed a full chain of ACTS-based track reconstruction with auto material map generation, realistic seed finder, combinatorial track finding/fitting, ambiguity solver, and primary vertexing.
  • Implemented initial prototype of electron-finder, which includes the implementation of track-calorimeter projections
  • Made progress towards the implementation of particle flow in ePIC
  • Made significant improvements across EICrecon (e.g. in the jet software)

Major impacts and successes:

  • Enabled tracking performance study with realistic event and beam background.
  • Supported internal review of tracking detectors

Current Priorities and Plans

  • Current Priorities/Focus Areas
    • TDR readiness:
      • in-depth study of hit level tracking quality checks and validation of extreme tracks (e.g. off axis)
      • Demonstrate tracking and vertexing performance with DIS+background events and timeframe.
      • Improving existing truth-cluster associations
      • Improved cluster merging & splitting
      • Enabling dead area and channel-by-channel noise injection in digitization
      • integration of far-forward / backward systems

  • Other main tasks for the coming months
    • Next month:
      • Completion of TDR tasks

    • Post-TDR Software Release:
      • Develop advanced algorithms (e.g. PID and track-particle matching)
      • Work towards specialization of calorimetry digitization
      • Restart dedicated Particle Flow development
      • Implementation of jet data model

Engagement in WG

  • Rough estimate of active members contributing to tasks or attending meetings

    • Biweekly reconstruction meeting:
      • Meeting attendance: 15 ~ 20 (inclusive) so far
      • Contributors: at least 12 (with multiple people engaged in multiple groups)
      • Several new collaborators from recently admitted institutions

    • Weekly joint tracking, reconstruction, and vertexing meeting:
      • attendance: ~20
      • contributors: ~15

  • Discussion on improving engagement.
    • Further engagement with DSCs
    • Joint tracking meeting to attract more attendees.
    • Small group developer discussions → regular reconstruction WG meeting to share progress and build synergy.
