Voltaic Pile

• acid of cardboard discs dissolves the metal in zinc discs

​

• to be dissolved, zinc atom must give away 2 of its electrons

​

• the zinc atom becomes an ion

​

• ions can “go where they want to” in the liquid acid

​

• ions go through the cardboard disc, and meet the copper disc.

​

• zinc ions “missing” two electrons, when they get to copper disc, they “steal” two electrons
