1.1.1/1.1.2: Expand access to full-day pre-K for Tier I 3- and 4-year children and Tier II 4-year old children

1.1.3: Implement a high quality mixed delivery (public & private) Pre-K

SMCPS Pre-K programs in place; 0 eligible childcare providers, waiver will be issued from MSDE

3.1.3: Students shall have equitable opportunities to become college and career ready (CCR) and shall meet the CCR standard at an equal rate

Curriculum aligned to CCR standards with pathways for students

3.2.1: Provide intervention services to students who are not on track to becoming CCR by the end of 10th grade

MSDE to develop CCR standard for pathways and programs; currently we offer recovery, within and after-school tutoring, and summer school opportunities.

3.2.3: LEAs shall create and implement a 9th grade student tracker system to measure progress toward on-time graduation and report data annually to MSDE.

9th grade progress monitoring system in place; MSDE reviewing to provide state-wide model for annual review

3.3.1: LEAs provide a CCR support pathway that allows all students who are not CCR by the end of 10th grade to graduate HS CCR

Data forthcoming for MSDE standard of CCR; differentiated pathways of support to align with CCR standard and expectations; new course proposed to be available as early as SY24: CCR Seminar

3.3.2: Each high school offers post-CCR pathways to all CCR students in grades 11 and 12 to earn early college credits and career and technical education (CTE) credentials at no cost to the student or the student’s parents, including the cost of any fees

Numerous pathways in place including dual enrollment, AP courses, and CTE programs

3.4.4: LEAs offer a robust set of CTE programs that allow students to learn an industry-recognized credential or postsecondary certificate, or complete the high school level of a registered apprenticeship program approved by the Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning within the Maryland Department of Labor

  • What grade levels are the focus in Math/ELA for this year?
  • What supports are in place for 9th grade students who struggle and still want to be part of the CTE pathway?

  • Continue to participate in MSDE/AIB Technical Assistance sessions to get questions answered; guidance; and input and collaboration with other local school systems sharing what they are doing and how they are doing it.
  • Be prepared for answers to all implementation questions to be drafted by Feb. 15th

4.2.2: Implementing the English learner workgroup recommendations

4.4.1: Personnel grants awarded to school where at least 55% of students are eligible for FARMs (185% FPL)

GWCES identified as Community School; hired Community School Coordinator, in process of hiring additional supports

4.4.2: Community school coordinators shall establish a community school and conduct school-level needs assessment in partnership with local entities/agencies

Needs assessment completed May 2022; Ongoing partnerships with CSM, SMCHD, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Dept, local businesses

4.5.2: Each local school system develops a plan to enhance and expand school behavioral health supports

Plan submitted to MSDE Nov 2022; supports for student, staff, and families continue

4.5.3: Requires annual training, behavioral health coordinators in LEAs, teacher, school staff to recognize behavioral health issues in students

Annual Safe Schools staff training, Gatekeeper suicide prevention training, training continues as needs arise
