Course Goals

Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes it undergoes.

  • Students will explore the structure of matter on the macroscopic scale and relate observations to the particles involved.
  • Investigate matter and change through hands on lab experiences.

Classroom Structure:

  • Students will engage in in-class notes, small scale activities, problem solving exercises, and data collection in lab.
  • Students are asked to be positive, active members of the classroom.
  • Questions are welcomed and effort is always encouraged.

Grading and Assessment

Assignment Types:

  • Daily work such as practice sheets or small group activities. (5 – 10 points)
  • Lab (10 - 20 points)
  • Homework (often formative, sometimes 5 – 10)
  • Quizzes and Summative Assessments (10 – 100 points)

Students are welcome to turn in any missing work for full credit until the Unit Test is given.

FAQ #1: How can my student get extra help?

  • Students should monitor their own understanding carefully. Be honest!
  • Don’t wait if something was unclear.
  • Take full advantage of assignments that can be resubmitted or practice assignments.
  • Use office hours and appointments!!!
  • Science Support Center!!
