What is a Education Outside the classroom?
Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) includes any curriculum-based teaching and learning that takes place outside our learning spaces, ranging from a museum or marae visit to a sports trip, field trip, or outdoor education camp.
Education outside the ‘classroom’ provides learners with experiences that complement and enhance learning, in alignment with the National Curriculum. They are authentic, hands-on and interactive learning experiences.
Outside providers and our school work in partnership to ensure that programmes meet the learning needs of learners and extend teaching and learning.
On enrolment, all parents will sign a local permission trip form, and any trip that requires a bus, a separate permission slip will be sent out online for whanau to sign and provide permission.
How we will support this?
Over each year, we will look at opportunities to extend learning outside the classroom for year groups. All trips will be closely linked to the learning intentions. We will also look for opportunities to use the local environments and community to make close connections for our learners. All these trips will be funded through the MOE school donation scheme, and there will be no cost to the whanau.
Outside visitors will be invited into our learning spaces to provide opportunities for learners to engage with other experts to increase their knowledge and understanding.
In Year 4, there will be one overnight stay experience. In Year 5 and Year 6, there will be a two-night stay camp. Parents will be informed about this in advance and we work hard to keep the cost down for our whanau. .
