Data is a collection of facts that we can find by looking, asking or measuring.

We can find data by looking at things.

This is called First-Hand Data.

We can sort fruit in the fruit bowl.

We find different plants and flowers in the garden.

We can count the coloured cars as they drive past.

We can find data by asking other people.

We can ask a yes or no question.

We can ask them about their favourite fruit or ice cream.

We can ask questions like “How do you get to school?”

We can find data by measuring things.

We can measure the time it takes to do things.

We can measure flowers and plants as they grow.

We can measure ourselves and find who’s tallest.

When we use a bar graph or a column graph we count the number of things we have and colour in the correct amount on the graph. We use different colours so it is easy to see the information.
