  • What was the control variable? Treatment variable?
  • What was the response variable?

And they weren’t all fab….

Great exemplar for next year’s learners

  • Sources of variation
  • what can be improved :)

24 of 37

Are we surprised by these results?

25 of 37

Absent students

  • Easy to catch-up
  • Managed from Hawaii
  • And another good exemplar for learning next year ….

26 of 37

Memory test

  • Find music themselves
  • Timed themselves
  • Easy, recognisable shapes
  • Answer = tick box (10 from 15 were correct)

27 of 37

  • Name some sources of variation?
  • What improvements could be made?
  • What main design flaw do these results point towards?

The random direct tool

  • Do I need to do any preparation?
  • Do students need to do a lot of work?
  • Are there any instructions?

32 of 37

Random redirect tool

So if I wanted to learn how to use the random redirect tool, where do I go?

33 of 37

Instructions to try now

  • Create a google form.
    • Hint: put in filler questions to disguise the treatment
  • Make a copy of the google form and change ONE thing only.
  • Use the random redirect tool from here to create the experiment link.
    • Put the link to google form 1 as link 1
    • Put the link to google form 2 as link 2
    • Push the button to get the random redirect link
  • And that’s it!

Another cross-curricular link:

Biology AS91601 Carry out a practical investigation in a biological context, with guidance 4 credits

  • Things we have learnt:
    • Busy time of year = less stress
    • Only accessible to Biology students
    • Lack of statistical ideas, e.g. random allocation, so need to remind them to use statistical evidence and language.
