Report on Academic Resources: Indecisiveness

Barry Lomibao, Jr.

14 of 42

What is Indecisiveness?

  • Definition: marked by or prone to indecision, a wavering between two or more possible courses of action.

15 of 42

Keep in mind that...

  • Indecisiveness stems from not knowing our own set of values.

  • Wastes a great deal of our energy.

  • “When a person is basically divided, they can never put their energies wholeheartedly into anything but wants always to pursue two or more incompatible goals… they will either scatter their energies or actively or actively frustrate their efforts.”

16 of 42

Reason #1

We rarely take a stand in accordance with the objective merits of a person, idea or cause, but rather on the basis of our own emotional needs.

17 of 42

Reason #2

One takes no clear position in their mind but at best, register the good, the bad, the valid, and the invalid- without arriving at any conviction of their own, because taking any clear position takes commitment.

18 of 42

Phenomena of “Decisiveness”

  • Don’t get it twisted; “Decisiveness” is not always good.
    • Being opinionated doesn’t always mean you’re good at making up your mind.

  • Some people show a close-minded purpose
    • Wholeheartedness is of desperation rather than of integration.

19 of 42

How can we deal with Indecisiveness?

  • In order to be less indecisive, we need to know ourselves
    • Values, beliefs, ambitions, boundaries, fears, vulnerabilities, inhibitions, and wishes.

  • Keep in mind that what we reject and accept, will be reflected in what we consider our shortcomings and faults.

  • Be conscious of one’s emotions.
    • *emotional agility - accuracy is important.

20 of 42

“The better we know ourselves, the less indecisive we will become.”

*Time and energy used when facing indecision can be saved to be used towards other matters*

Shadow’s Night

Shadows Night: Friday, February 5th

Time: 5 to 7 PM

What is the Shadows Program?

The Shadow Program provides general body members the chance to shadow the Executive Board members of APSA. Shadows are given a glimpse of what each position entails as well as the duties correlated with that position. The goal of the program is to allow members to become informed of the commitments and responsibility of serving on Executive Board. We also hope to engage in critical learning dialogue between the shadows and respective officers.
