In Spain, there is a festival called Cadiz Carnival They play and perform a lot of music. Right here, there is a official contest that is held at the Gran Teatro Falla. They spend the whole year practicing for this contest, also the rounds start a month before the festival.

In Antroxu, Spain, the festival highlight of Carnaval is the parade. People dressed in costumes take over the street. They usually play music too. “Las Sardaxians” are the Ambassadors for the festivities in Gijon. They are the sardine mascots.

Carnival in Santiago de Cuba is held during the end of July. It is believed that it evolved from the summer festival Mamarrachos. Dancers would crowd the streets, and travel down the road. People in the crowd would eat traditional foods, such as empanadas.

In Veracruz, Mexico, carnival is celebrated in a way unusual to us but not as much to them. Most people dress up in decorative costumes and stand on top a float dancing. The people of Veracruz, Mexico celebrate with parades, colorful outfits along with lots of food. The food consists of traditional Mexican style food such as Tacos.

Lima Peru has many parades during Carnival. They also have many crazy parties. A person is in charge of each carnival party and they will plant a tree that is decorated with presents and ornaments, similar to a Christmas tree, but with prizes on it.

First, they do not follow a Christian calander of carnival finishing when lent begins, it runs ffrom early january to late march. Also, carnival in South America is very rich. It brings together many diverse cultures, and is one of the most authentic carnivals in the world having not been commercialized or commodified.

El Callao Carnival attracts thousands of people from all over the world per year because of its unique celebrations. Parades, parties, excess drinking, calypso music, and live music concerts are a few ways of celebrating it in this area. A creative Carnival character commonly seen, called the medio-pintos, are painted in black and go around collecting donations. People who donate, are painted in charcoal. #fiesta
