Drama in kindergarten- second grade will focus on the following:

  • discovering how to use the elements of the Actor’s Toolbox,
  • dramatic movement
  • theater games
  • learning about feelings and exploring different aspects of stagecraft.

Grades 3-5 will focus on the following:

  • discovering how to use the elements of the Actor’s Toolbox to become better actors
  • the aspects of the stage/stage directions
  • theater games, monologues, improvisation, playwriting and acting.

Grades 3-5 will also participate in Project Soapbox, which is a citywide public speaking program!

  • Students understand what it means to be part of a digital community and describe ways to keep it a safe, respectful space.

Global Dance

Global dance is a dance-education program that will provide students with a multicultural education and experience through dance and fitness.

Students in grades K-5 will explore, create, replicate and observe multiple types of dances.

They will build their technical and expressive skills, develop their artistry and experience the power of dance to communicate.

They will understand dance as a universal language and a legacy of expression in every culture.

Global Dance Show

  • The Global Dance Show is our school-wide celebration of culture, music, and movement.
  • Students explore dances from countries around the world while learning rhythm, formations, and teamwork.
  • Selected students who volunteer from grades 1–5 will represent their grade in performances.
  • The show highlights creativity, confidence, and appreciation for different cultures.
  • It will take place in the spring, giving students time to prepare and grow in their dance skills.

  • The Visual Arts Enrichment Program meets once per week.
  • P.S. 102 fine arts program is rich in culture and history.

  • Interdisciplinary connections are obtained with HMH Into Reading and Social Studies Standards, Science and Math.
  • Students come face to face with renowned artists and their work.

Through an exploration of media- painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, mixed media and sculpture - Kindergarten through Grade 5 develop and understanding of the elements of art and principles of design to deepen their expressive and critical faculties, hone in on their art skills and cultivate their imagination and creativity.
