Compendium & Governance
NOVEMBER NEC: PART 4
The LAW
a.k.a. Compendium & Governance!!
What is Governance?
The structures, rules, and regulations upon which AIESEC US operates. It’s what keeps the MC and the LCs in sync with each other and it is a power that should be used wisely. Subcommittees are included in this as well.
Examples: pricing structures, membership model, conference structures, mandates, etc.
The Compendium
It is our document of Governance, our “Constitution”. It is the responsibility of all of us to follow it and to make sure it is upheld at all times. The Compendium is revisited and improved upon during Legislation periods, convened by the National Plenary of AIESEC United States.
It’s YOUR responsibility!!
Managing the Compendium is the responsibility of the MC and the LCPs
Some things you should know about:
National Legislative Meetings (NLMs) - these are meetings of the National Plenary where the Compendium is officially updated, changed, or modified through proposed motions or mandates.
Currently, these happen at WNC and SNC, twice a year. However, it is possible to hold an NLM at another conference if necessary.
It is also possible to hold Virtual Legislative Meetings (VLMs) for urgent matters.
Attendance of your Local Entity at an NLM is MANDATORY! No representation could result in a downgrading and have serious consequences (please see Articles 3.9.3.6 and 3.9.4.5
Some things you should know about:
Subcommittees - groups, consisting of LCPs and an MC member, that meet in order to work on and review topics defined in Section 7.2 of the Compendium.
Currently we have Membership and Finance Subcommittees, where the Chair of each Subcommittee makes up the Legislation Subcommittee
