Hello Oliver Ellsworth Families -
Today I’d like to discuss drills and codes. We have different codes for various reasons. For example, a Code Yellow means to continue teaching but stay in your room. There are a multitude of reasons we might call this. Typically there is no danger. Code Red means there is some degree of danger. I would let you know if there was a Code Red drill. I typically do not let you know if there was a Code Yellow, often this has to do with a medical emergency so I want to protect privacy. We practice all Codes and Fire Drills, one a month. Although we haven’t practiced a school-wide Code Red yet, teachers practice within their rooms so all know what to do. We will practice as a school soon. Lastly, given a real emergency, my priority is protecting your child. I will communicate with you when it is safe to do so.

Spotlight on Specials
New additions to the classroom include electronic drum sets which the students use to play rhythms such as
using color coding just like we use with pitched instruments. Here are some second graders from Ms. Nash’s class!
Over the summer, a grant allowed us to purchase a complete set of West African drums for our enrichment classes. Now we get to use them all year long. These pre-k students from Ms. Dominguez’s class are performing a beat called “Kassa”.

Oliver Ellsworth School Governance Council 2022-2023
Calling all OE parents and families!
Next meeting: January 19, 2023
We need your participation - please consider joining the OE School Governance Council (SGC)!
SGC is a group of parents, school staff, and community members working together to improve student achievement. SGCs serve in an advisory capacity to assist the school administration. SGCs are primarily parent led. So we need YOU! Meetings will be held in the evenings (virtually for now) and are usually about an hour.
Please reach out to Principal Gruber at tgruber@windsorct.org or Rosanna Wilson (OE parent) at rosannazwillson@gmail.com for more information on our SGC. THANK YOU!!
