About the class

CPM Math

CPM incorporates problem solving strategies, questions, investigate, analyze critically, gather and construct evidence, and communicate rigorous arguments to justify their thinking. Students are taught how to gather and organize information about problems, break problems into smaller parts, and look for patterns that lead to solutions. Students will learn to collaborate with others, share information, expertise and ideas. While solving complex mathematical problems, students will be communicating their thinking and understanding, both formally and informally, by writing or speaking out loud.

CPM uses Problem Based Learning in order to develop an understanding together with a procedure for solving problems rather than practicing a procedure after being told. True quality learning takes place while students are working on problems.

Just a Note….

6th grade is a transitional year for our kids. Students may have a hard time adjusting, but do not worry. Once the kids learn the expectations and routines of their teachers and the new protocols of learning (and follow them), they will be fine. I have been teaching for many years and have seen changes happening each year…..and I know the kids will adjust to this new way of learning. Believe me, the kids will adapt and be successful.

Please be assured that your child is like my child now and that I only want the best for them and will do what needs to be done to assure an easier transition into 7th grade.
