What Happened: A lot happened in our city and country in the past day:

Wednesday Morning: Supporters of Trump came to DC the same day the US Congress was doing the last step of confirming Joe Biden will be the next president.

Wednesday Afternoon:

A mob of Trump’s supporters overtake the US Capitol. Lawmakers are evacuated. One Trump supporter is shot and killed. The rioters have control of the Capital for about 4 hours.

Wednesday Evening:

The police retake the Capitol, though many of Trump’s supporters remain near nearby even after the curfew. As of midnight, 52 people had been arrested. Around 9pm, Congress starts meeting again to make the election results official.

What’s Right For You Today?

Your Choice:

  1. SOME of us may want to talk more about what’s happening and our reactions in a circle with Family (sneak peek at the questions on the right).

  • OTHERS might prefer not to talk about it now and have quiet, independent work time.

You’ll make your choice on the next slide.

DC is a world city, the nation’s capital, but also, it is our city, our home. It is a privilege and a burden to have history happen in your backyard.

Here are the DCI Circle Norms we follow:

1. Speak from the heart. Speak for what is true for you.

2. Listen with your heart. Be respectful. People may have different thoughts than you -- try to understand.

3. No need to rehearse.

4. Without feeling rushed, say just enough.

5. And today, we add: accept that we won’t answer everything. Our processing doesn’t end when the circle does.

Democracy is fragile. To preserve it requires people of good will -- leaders -- with the courage to stand up…

The way forward is plain: peaceful, generous, just. It is the way of democracy, honor, and commitment.
