  • Early Career Physicists
  • Instrumentation and Detectors
  • Earth Science
  • Biophysics
  • Plasma Physics
  • Atmospheric Pollution

10-year implementation plan

  • Until an update of ASFAP
    • Which ASFAP recommendations are actionable?
    • Which actionable recommendations can be implemented within that time scale?
  • Implementing actionable recommendations
    • Requires projects
    • Many projects but not enough money
    • What can we do if given some limited amount of money with a limited time?
    • Evaluations
    • Return on Investment
  • Project prioritization
    • Natural for people to want to prioritize their own projects
    • Discussions may get difficult. Friendships and allegiances may be tested. Some folks might become unhappy
    • But we need to go thru this exercise in Africa for growth so that …
  • When asked
    • “What do you want from the ASFAP report?”
    • “If given $X in Y years, what can you?”
    • We will have one concerted answer

Inter-related communities of engagements

  • To reduce costs and towards a joint proposal, define:
    • Common education target for all projects
    • Common research facility with core education, training and support for early careers, for all projects.
    • Common basic infrastructure
    • Then identify additions / extras specific to different projects
    • In so doing, iterate to reduce costs
    • do this for a 10-year time scale
  • Arrive at a joint proposal
  • Produce a short proposal write up
