A major element of Warhol's identity was the words he used to describe himself and his artwork. Warhol did not like to make statements about his past or his personal life because he insisted that he was empty. He believed everything the public needed to know can be seen on his surface and the surface of his paintings. He liked to think of himself as a mirror reflecting back whatever the viewer wanted to see. In addition, he made a point to declare his love of beautiful things and money. These desires are manifested in his lifestyle, which consisted of surrounding himself with an entourage of minor stars and seeking out celebrities and also in his approach to art. Warhol was an ambitious artist who made his money by using the silkscreen technique for faster and easier production and networking with wealth collectors who were obliged to buy his art.
