Writing Territory Maps
Mrs. Sokolowski
Think of a place where you feel your happiest, a place where you feel really alive and comfortable.
Describe that place with as many details as you can in your Writer’s Notebook.
Maps can be made
of anything...
Favorite places...maps… Why are we thinking about these ideas?
Writers have so many stories to tell, but sometimes forget all they could write about! Having a “map” helps a writer see possibilities for writing projects.
First step...think of your writing “territories”- all the areas of your life!
Family, friends, schools, hobbies, pets, trips, favorites, books you read, hopes, fears, best times, worst times...
Mrs. Sokolowski’s Writing Territories
Next step...
Think of your favorite place and imagine how it might look as a map. What are the parts of this place? How can you separate it into sections or categories that match your territories?
